Hardest Games On The Xbox 360
It has been said that the retro games of yesterday were a lot harder than what developers have been churning out over the last couple of years. Whilst there is a little truth to this, there is no denying that there have been some mighty challenging Xbox 360 games to date. Below are list of games that separate the Spartans from the Persians;
Ninja Gaiden 2
Whether it’s an off-screen ninja being able to throw darts at you, or the fact that you’re required to have lightning fast reflexes to react to unpredictable enemies, Ninja Gaiden 2 is by far the toughest hack and slash game out there! Even on its lowest difficulty setting, you’ll soon find yourself struggling with the very first boss fight you encounter. Whilst Ninja Gaiden 2 is hard as nails, it remains to be one of the most awesome action games on the Xbox 360 – despite those dastardly camera angles.
Bayonetta
Okay, so Bayonetta is not nearly as bone crunching as Ninja Gaiden 2, but it is undeniably hard! Whilst Ninja Gaiden has you tearing your hair out from how painfully fast you have to be, Bayonetta’s difficulty lies within the constant distractions you have to endure throughout the game. It also doesn’t help much that enemies are massively over powered and also five times the size of you! Patience, a keen eye and the reflexes you acquired from Ninja Gaiden 2 will help beat such a challenging game.
Halo: Reach
Once ramped up to legendary difficulty, this game is more formidable than all of the Call of Duty games put together – yes, even Call of Duty 3! Much like Halo 3, players can choose to go through such a beastly difficulty either co-operatively or singlehandedly. Of course, the latter will show your worth as you’ll gain a 150g achievement for proving you were man enough to go through it alone! Undergoing such a merciless difficulty solo is not for the feint hearted.
Dark Souls
Whilst Dark Souls is considered to be one of the most punishing games of recent years, its menacing difficulty can soon be overcome with a cool head and a little patience. The game offers a wealth of challenging boss fights that can only be defeated by learning from your mistakes. If you have yet to play Dark Souls – expect to die, a lot! Unfortunately the game feels more tedious than anything, nevertheless it will break you and isn’t for the casual gamers out there.
Gears of War 3
Once again, this games true potential lies in its highest difficulty setting. What would usually take 10 minutes to do on normal difficulty, will take anywhere from half an hour to an hour on insane mode. The traditionally safe method of shooting an enemy and then immediately hiding behind cover doesn’t quite work since you are always an open target for boomers! Patience is the key to winning this game and trust me – you will need a lot of it!
Pac-Man
It brings me great pleasure to inform you that the difficulty bar is set by none other than Namco’s master of disaster, the infamous yellow wanderer – Pac-Man! Mastering the old Pac-Man game on the Xbox Arcade compilation is more challenging than all 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii games combined! The irony is that it is a re-make of a retro video game – figures!
Read More7 Reasons Not To Buy the Harry Potter and Deathly ...
Admittedly, in my early years I was a lot more partial to The Lord of the Rings trilogy as opposed to the whimsical world of Harry Potter. There was just something about swords, elves and talking trees that captivated me more than games of quidditch and a wizard school full of children. Surprisingly, Harry Potter began to lure me in with its mystery, evil wizards and dark spells and so I became an honorary Potter fan! That was until EA wanted a piece of the action, effectively ruining the franchise as we know it! Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the many reasons not to buy into the video games and ruin one of the best loved stories of all time.
Reason 1: Harry Potter should not be a third person shooter!
It’s no secret that over the last few years shooter games have become increasingly popular. EA obviously realized this as they essentially took our loveable Hogwarts trio and turned them into Call of Duty soldiers with wands and a cover mechanic! Is it just me, or is this concept a little too done to death?
Reason 2: Repetitive and shallow gameplay
Whether you’re facing off against spiders and pixies, or death eaters and snatchers, your only real method of defense in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is locking onto a target and casting a spell. This wouldn’t be so bad if the only spell that you ever really needed to use was the one you actually start off with – stupefy! This ultimately makes the other seven spells in the game feel almost pointless!
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a continuous mix of defend missions and using rocket launcher-esque spells to blow up hordes of enemies – yes, very Harry Potter.
Reason 3: Leveling has little to no effect
You wouldn’t think it, but Harry does actually level up during gameplay. Of course, you’re only notified of this once you get bored enough to hit the pause button and look to the bottom of the screen. Despite Harry’s discreet leveling up, each enemy will still seemingly require the same amount shots to be defeated! If anything, the leveling system is nothing more than a window dressing to make the game seem a lot deeper than it actually is.
Reason 4: Both games are short, very short
Whether you literally run through the levels non-stop or you slowly pace your way forward, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows won’t last any longer than 4 – 5 hours! If you think that’s insulting, then just imagine paying $50 – $60 for a game which literally lasts just under 3 hours! Yes, I’m looking at you Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
Reason 5: Laborious Kinect challenge modes
In a lazy, last ditched attempt to impress fans of the franchise, EA decided it would be a good idea to implement a Kinect challenge mode into Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Don’t be fooled though. The mode is nothing more than a selection of short, on-rails missions that see you using a maximum of two spells to defend yourself with. I bet you can’t guess which spell is your primary weapon.
Reason 6: Deathly Hallows Part 2 and the lack of a Kinect experience
You would think that since its predecessor boasted the ability to use the Kinect’s features, that perhaps the sequel would either make use of the same challenge mode or integrate some sort of motion sensor technology during the story gameplay. Instead, EA in all their wisdom decided to completely ignore Microsoft’s latest gaming invention and churn out a game that only has a 3 hour story mode.
Reason 7: Voldemort is disappointingly easy!
Believe it or not, the most feared and powerful wizard in the entire Harry Potter world is actually is easier to beat than his right hand lieutenant, Bellatrix! If you’re expecting a fight anywhere near as epic as the movie adaptation, then you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Catherine Preview
If there is one upcoming game that has everyone talking at the moment, it’s Catherine! It’s not often that the Xbox 360 receives a well-hyped Japanese title, so when it does we of course want to know more!
So what is Catherine?
Catherine is a one-of-a-kind Japanese puzzle game with a twist. Dealing with some pretty risqué topics such as seduction, infidelity and relationship commitment, Catherine sees you take on the role of a perverted slacker known as Vincent. Unfortunately, Vincent’s fear of commitment and marriage forces him to get ridiculously drunk, meet an attractive young woman at a bar and wake up in bed with her the next morning!
After committing such an adulterous act, Vincent becomes paranoid and continuously has recurring nightmares involving huge towers and sheep-men. As if that wasn’t bad enough, television and newspapers begin to report on a large number of men dying in their sleep!
What can we expect in terms of gameplay?
Brought to you by the very masterminds behind the Persona series, Catherine will have you working relentlessly to climb puzzle-based towers within Vincent’s nightmares. You’ll ascend these towers by pushing and pulling blocks in order to create a direct path for Vincent to escape. Sounds easy right? Well, unfortunately not all blocks can be manipulated and there is an array of traps to stop you from reaching the top. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there is a large selection of bosses that chase you as you try to make it to the top in one piece! You can definitely expect a challenge from this game.
Of course, puzzle games aren’t the only thing to entice you into the world of Vincent. The game will regularly shift between a bar for you to speak with NPC’s, a toilet for you to discreetly browse the naughty pictures on your phone and dream world where you can obtain puzzle hints from the sheep-men. You’ll also have to keep an eye on your morality meter as it will fluctuate with every conversational decision you make.
Are the graphics good?
Rumour has it that Vincent will boast the exact same game engine that is going to be used for Persona 5! It will also include animation that was created by the very studio that brought us Tekkenkinkkreet, Halo Legends and the Thundercats reboot! Put simply, yes! The Graphics are brilliant!
I’ve heard this game is a little “steamy” at times, is this true?
One thing you can expect from Vincent is the occasional half naked woman, sexy lingerie shots and intimate moments. That’s not to say the game is just another hentai to come out of Japan – because it’s not. However, I don’t advise you to play this in front of your parents unless you want your Xbox confiscated for the next six months!
Well, that sold it! So when is it out?
Expect Catherine to be in stores everywhere from February 2012. It is possible to skip the wait and order the Japanese import now. However, since a large portion of the game is dialogue-based, you’ll enjoy it a whole lot more by waiting for an English speaking copy.

Top 6 Hardest Xbox 360 Games to Obtain 1000G
There are two types of gamers out there, those that selectively choose which achievements they want to unlock and those that go all out to hit the ever so pleasing 1000G mark. Let’s face it, nothing separates a gamer from a perfectionist like a nice and tidy 1000G. Unfortunately, such a score isn’t so easy to attain in certain games and it takes a true warrior to obtain maximum completion in every title. So, just what are these dreaded games that vow to hinder ones gamer score?
Armored Core 4
Armored Core games are renowned for their difficulty alone, but to fully complete this game you have to clear each mission with an S rank. This is no easy task when time isn’t on your side and you have to finish all of the hard missions too!
Devil May Cry 4
Finishing Devil May Cry 4 without even attempting any of the achievements will land you roughly just under 200G. This is before even trying your hand at the notorious Bloody Palace Mode or relentlessly collecting those red orbs. A full 1000G will see you finishing Dante Must Die Mode, obtaining all S ranks and grinding to acquire a full skill set for Both Dante and Nero. Devil May Cry 4 isn’t for the weak!
Ninja Gaiden II
It was obvious this devilish culprit would end up on such a list as this! Praise should be given to anyone who has the skill and courage to even finish it on the easiest difficulty, let alone gun for a well deserved 1000G. Unfortunately the game punishes you further by requiring you to go through it several more times using specified weapons for a measly 5G each! – I guess every point counts.
Final Fantasy XIII
Okay, so Final Fantasy XIII isn’t exactly the hardest game out there, but by Jove does it take a lot of time and patience to fully complete all of its achievements! One nightmarish achievement in particular is Treasure Hunter. For this you’re required to have held every item and accessory in the game. Unfortunately, several items are easily missed and others must be upgraded. For a pitiful 30G you also have to completely max out each character – say goodbye to your social life.
Sonic the Hedgehog – 2006
How can we have a list dedicated to the toughest 1000G games without mentioning the blue speedster’s infamous game? Clearing all episodes is easy right? Sure, but clearing all episodes with an S rank? Not so much. Clearing all of Sonic’s difficult level missions is also quite a pain since the game is relatively broken.
Final Fantasy XI
For most of you, this games appearance on the list will come as no surprise. Not only do you have to pay for a monthly subscription and extra characters which you then have to max out, but you also have to quit your job and cut off all of your social ties for the next few years whilst you spend your life working towards seriously time consuming achievements.
